Hurst Castle Spit, Hampshire

Hurst Castle Spit

Hurst Castle Spit in Hampshire cannot be directly reached by car, but is accessible via a short walk from nearby villages. This is a superb example of a shingle spit, with a 16th century castle built by Henry VIII to visit as well. There are numerous examples of coastal management in the area, and the seaward end of the spit offers superb views across the waters of the Solent to the Needles stacks on the Isle of Wight.
