Fantastic climate change resources/web-links!

Ben Ballin very kindly shared the below PDF, entitled 'Climate change education resources', with me.  This list has been compiled by the West Midlands Sustainable Schools Network (WMSSN).  They are a diverse network of organisations and individuals providing support to schools on sustainability themes.  Do visit their website: https://westmidlandssustainableschoolsnetwork.com and very active Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/wmsussch.  Most, but not all, of these resources are accessible online for FREE.  Look for those with a 'P' next to them as this indicates that they are aimed at primary school teachers and their pupils.

Whilst 'climate change' is not specifically mentioned in the National Curriculum geography programmes of study at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, there are plenty of ways in which this fundamental global issue can be interwoven into your current themes.  For example:

Key Stage 1:

'Place knowledge
understand geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country'

'Human and physical geography
identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles'

Key Stage 2:

'Place knowledge
understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography of a region of the United Kingdom, a region in a European country, and a region within North or South America'

'Human and physical geography
describe and understand key aspects of:
physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle
human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water'
