National Festival of Fieldwork 2024

The Geographical Association’s National Festival of Fieldwork kicks off in June and this year the theme is ‘Fieldwork for Everyone’. There are lots of ways to get involved and celebrate this brilliant part of our discipline!

One central idea is to get as many students, from all key stages, outside and doing some fieldwork. Any student who takes part can receive a certificate – these can be downloaded from the National Festival of Fieldwork section of the GA website, where there are also lots of fieldwork ideas and resources to inspire you.

The Festival also highlights the support teachers can give each other in planning and resourcing fieldwork experiences. Teachers can discuss new ideas for fieldwork, share a go-to resource that never lets them down or simply reminisce about their favourite fieldwork moment as a teacher or when they were a student themselves. We encourage all teachers to engage with the hashtag #NationalFestivalofFieldwork and to follow the GA’s Fieldwork and Outdoor Learning Special Interest Group (FOLSIG) on the X platform to get the most from the event. The GA will be using the Festival as an opportunity to not only champion high quality fieldwork opportunities but also to highlight its importance in the curriculum – why not join us as part of the celebration?
