Exeter University renewable energy developments

Exeter University's latest renewable energy project was energised in July 2024. The 1MW solar array on the six acre site has added its energy to the 1.3 MW of Photovoltaic technology (PV) already installed on buildings across the University campus. Renewable energy is helping Exeter University in its drive to net zero and plans are in place to expand renewable energy production to 2-3 MW in the next 3 to 5 years. The solar array project is in the Duryard Valley, and was controversial because of its potential effect on wildlife and landscape. However, the development was approved by Exeter City Council on the grounds that the renewable energy benefits will outweigh any harm to the landscape.
