Blue Anchor Bay, Somerset

Blue Anchor

This walk covers a section of the Somerset coast, from Blue Anchor Bay to Watchet. It begins near the Blue Anchor Hotel, which has recently been forced to close due to cliff collapse. By checking tide times to visit at low tide, it is possible to not only take a look at the coastal erosion processes taking place here, but also walk along the shoreline to the village of Watchet, a distance of just short of three miles. The route offers Jurassic and Triassic geology, some unusual cliff formations, and a chance to collect fossils. The walk could be combined with a ride on the West Somerset Steam Railway.
